Hodges grabs win in ULMA action at Humboldt Speedway.

Humboldt Speedway- Hot temperatures and fireworks greeted the ULMA Late Models presented by the Lucas Cattle Company last night as part of their Thirsty Thursday Triple Crown Challenge. Also competing were Ray’s Metal Depot B Modifieds, Tumbleweed Music Festival Street Stocks, Home Savings Bank Factory Stocks and O’Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compacts.
In ULMA (United Late Model Association) action, outside pole sitter Dustin Hodges from Centralia, Missouri, the current series point leader, rocketed out to an early lead using the Hummer’s high-line to distance himself from Browning , MIssouri’s Timmy Cordray and Appleton City ace Johnny Fennewald. Caution on lap nine gave Cordray and Fennewald another shot at Hodges, but the point leader went back to the high-line and earned his first victory at Humboldt Speedway. Fennewald grabbed second with Cordary settling for third. Cody Holtkamp and hard-charger Kaeden Cornell rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Cordray and Hodges. The ULMA will invade Lake Ozarks Speedway in Eldon, Missouri tonight and Springfield Raceway Saturday night to complete their Triple Crown race weekend.
Rays’ Metal Depot B Modified action saw a newcomer to McCarthy Autogroup / Humboldt Speedway Victory Lane as Moran, Kansas driver Curt Drake collected his first win on the year. Drake, from his outside pole position starting spot, tracked Brian McGown early as the two dueld for lead in the early stages of the A feature. McGowen retired early after brake problems giving the lead to Drake who would complete his first victory of the year. Two-time feature winner Tyler Kidwell of Chanute would pass current point leader Cody Jolly to secure second. Shawn Strong from Billings, Missouri and Chanute’s Matthew Kay rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to McGowen, Jolly and Drake.
In Tumbleweed Music Festival Street Stocks, Jay Lamons Jr. raced to and early lead and never looked back as he picked up another win on the 2018 season. By virtue of a strong heat race, Lamons started on the pole and led every lap. Humboldt’s Nick Fritch ran second and Chris Kircher from Drexel, Missouri finished second. Fritch picked up the heat win.
Home Saving Bank Factory stocks saw Jon Westhoff extend his points lead and pick up another A Feature win. Westhoff inherited the lead from Chanute’s Jacob Ellison who led early but was forced to retire. Westhoff held off sixteenth starting Derrek Wilson and Scott Collins for the win. Wilson’s fourteen spot advance to second place gained him hard charger honors. Heat race wins went to Kris Dupuy and Ellison.
Trey Stipp garnered his third victory of the year after battling with Humboldt’s Eric Ikehorn throughout the A feature. Stipp held off IKehorn over the closing laps to seal the victory. Brandon Vink, Curtis Wilson Jr. and Robert Moore completed the top five.
Racing returns to Humboldt Speedway after a two week hiatus with ASCS Red River Region Sprint cars hitting the Hummer on July 13th. Also competing will be Ray’s Metal Depot B Modifieds, Tumbleweed Music Festival Street Stocks, Home Savings Bank Factory Stocks and O’Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compacts.
