Wayne Johnson sails at the Salina Highbanks

Tulsa, OK (April 27, 2012) - The last time the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV graced the Salina Highbanks in 2001 Wayne Johnson sailed to victory. Drawing the number two pill in the redraw, Johnson repeated his 2001 success by wiring the night’s twenty-five lap feature event.

“You know we haven’t been here for a while, since ’01, and we won both races then. We just went back our notes and did the same stuff and I’ll tell you what this one of the funnest tracks we get to go to; you’re haulin’ butt at this place “commented a very happy Wayne Johnson in victory lane. “Being from Oklahoma, now I live in Iowa, I have a lot of friends here and having my Wife here this weekend makes this really special.”

Starting alongside Jack Dover on the front row, the Super Shox 77x wasted no time taking over the top spot. Bolting to the high line from the drop of the green Johnson left the field by over a straight-a-way; utilizing restarts and often times slower traffic to maintain his advantage.

Falling back to fourth on the start, Jack Dover would have to play catch as the Oil Field Equipment and Manufacturing 11g of Mike Goodman shot into second with team mate Matt Covington taking over third. Taking back the runner up spot on lap three with the help of slower traffic, Dover would not relinquish the second until lap twenty-two when a restart on lap twenty-two allowed the Casey’s General Store 21 of Brian Brown to pull off the slide job.

Charging from eighth, Brown would hold off the last chance charge of Dover for the runner up spot as Dover held off Danny Lasoski for third with Brad Loyet rounding out the top five. Johnny Herrera, who spent much of the feature battle with Gary Wright and Brady Bacon would come home sixth with Gary Wright seventh. Brady Bacon would settle for eighth after starting fifteenth.

After a DNF in his heat forced Jason Johnson into a B-Main, the MVT 41 would drive from eighteenth to ninth with Tony Bruce Jr., who also experienced problems in his heat, earning the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award by charging from twentieth to round out the top ten.
