Fifth-place finish in Gopher 50 at Deer Creek Speedway

With 37 Late Models entered, Weiss followed up a fifth-place outing in his heat race with a runner-up finish in his consolation event. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Ricky was credited with a 23rd-place outing after retiring on lap 37.
On Thursday afternoon at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minn.) for two rounds of prelims leading up to Saturday’s NAPA Auto Parts Gopher 50, Ricky raced from the 20th-starting position in the 25-lap preliminary to finish seventh.
For another $5,000-to-win prelim on Friday, Ricky followed up a fourth-place finish in his heat with a 15th-to-12th run in the feature.
With preliminary points placing Weiss on the third row for Saturday's $50,000-to-win NAPA Auto Parts Gopher 50, Ricky improved one spot in the 75-lap affair to register a fifth-place finish. He followed Brandon Overton, Chris Madden, Tim McCreadie, and Mike Marlar to the checkers.
