Following the second-fastest time trial effort, Ford posted a second-place finish in his heat, which came behind Carson Ferguson. Starting the $10,067-to-win A-Main in fifth, Jensen rebounded to finish eighth in the 53-lapper after battling mechanical issues.
On Thursday afternoon at Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.), Jensen locked into the 13th-starting position for the main event via the 13th-fastest qualifying lap. With $7,553 on the line, Ford suffered a flat tire on the ninth circuit that dropped him to the tail. He was running in 16th when a rain shower forced officials to cut the race short with 27 laps completed.
With Friday’s program at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Ga.) rained out, Ford invaded Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) on Saturday for the Ray Varner Ford 53. With preliminary results lining him up on the ninth row for the $10,053-to-win finale, Jensen passed five cars in the 53-lap affair to finish 13th.
Jensen finished fourth in the final Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals point standings.
