Koehler Motorsports Embarks on Volusia
Koehler Motorsports thundered into Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) over the weekend for the Sunshine Nationals.
Jordan Koehler and Jimmy Owens entered the World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series events at the 1/2-mile oval on Thursday. With 47 entries on hand Jordan raced into the main event with a third-place finish in his heat race.
Starting 11th in the feature Koehler retired from the 25-lap feature on eighth circuit and was credited with a 26th-place finish.
Meanwhile, Owens advanced to the $8,000-to-win finale with a B-Main victory. Starting 18th, Owens finished 19th at the checkered flag.
Jordan also competed in the DIRTcar 602 Late Model division, where 36 entries registered for battle. Qualifying fifth fastest in his group, he started fifth in the feature before advancing to a third-place finish behind Jensen Ford and David Showers Jr.
Evan joined his brother in the 602 Late Model ranks. In his respective group he qualified eighth to lock into the eight starting spot for his feature. He passed two cars to finish sixth.
Last but not least, Ross Bailes entered a team's entry into the Crate Racin' USA Dirt Late Model division. Ross set fast time in his group and then wired the field in the feature to scored the $1,500 victory over Jason Welshan, Tyler Bare, Jake Knowles, and Richard Ferry.
Action continued on Friday evening. Jordan Koehler and Jimmy Owens once again took part in the WoO Super Late Model portion of the program, but luck wasn't on their side. Koehler fell short of qualifying for the feature, while Owens utilized a series' provisional to start the main event in 27th but was a lap-8 retiree with a mechanical failure. He was credited with a 26th-place finish.
In the 602 Late Model ranks Jordan was 14th in his respective feature, while Evan Koehler finished 11th in his prelim feature.
Ross Bailes enjoyed another solid outing in the Crate Racin' USA Dirt Late Model Series division. Starting the night by qualifying third fastest he went on to register a second-place finish in the prelim feature behind Austin Yarbrough with Kyle Bronson, Jake Knowles, and Chase Collins completing the Top-5 finishers.
Saturday's finales fell victim to rain and will not be rescheduled.
