Austin Holcombe Opens '23 at Volusia

Austin Holcombe opened the 2023 season on Monday night at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) during the opening round of the DIRTcar Nationals.

A stout field of 102 entries took part in the event, and after qualifying 22nd fastest Austin earned the eighth-starting spot for his 20-lap prelim feature. He went on to advance a spot to a seventh-place finish.

On Tuesday night the field was once again divided into six featured with hot lap/qualifying setting the grid. Austin qualified sixth fastest in his group to earn the second-starting spot for his 20-lap prelim feature. He raced in a podium spot throughout the event before crossing the finish line in third behind Drake Troutman and Matt Crafton.

Wednesday's qualifying effort positioned Austin third on the grid for his 20-lap feature. He raced to a second-place finish behind Kyle Strickler with Mike Learman, Mark Anderson, and Jared Spalding.

Thursday night would be a challenge for Holcombe, He started 15th in his prelim feature and was only able to manage a 13th-place finish.

Via his performances on the previous nights Austin lined up third on the starting grid for his Gator Championship heat race on Friday night. Slipping one spot to a fourth-place finish, relegated him to a B-Main. With a second-place finish in the B-Main, Holcombe transferred to the $5,000-to-win feature in the 23rd-starting spot.

During the course of the 30-lap affair he advanced nine spots to finish 14th.
