Jim Bernheisel parks in Bedford's victory lane in 2023 season opener
Sunday evening found racing veteran, Jim Bernheisel once again reminding the younger generations that he still knows how to get it done behind the wheel.
The driver known as “Flyin Jimmy” piloted his Superko Racing / Oasis Hair & Natural Nail Salon No. 31 Rock Bottom Dirt Work Lazer Chassis Super Late Model to the season opening win at Bedford Speedway on Sunday evening.
“I'm really thrilled to win in the twilight of my career and at the track where I won my first Super Late Model race 35 years ago. I'm happy to keep proving we build really fast race cars. I was managing my pace because I knew we had a really good car,” Bernheisel proudly shared.
The 2023 season officially kicked off for Bernheisel Racing on Sunday evening with both Bryan and Jim Bernheisel competing at Bedford Speedway (Bedford, Pa.) in the track’s 87th season opener.
In a field of 23 Super Late Models, Jim earned the pole position for the main event with a sixth-to-third run in his heat race.
Meanwhile, Bryan’s outing started on a rough note. He went to the back of the pack in his heat race after contact with the wall. He rebounded to finish fifth, which pinned him starting on the seventh row for the feature.
After setting the pace early in the main event, Jim repelled a charging Colton Flinner, following a late restart to secure first win of the season.
He took the checkers 0.68 seconds ahead of Flinner with Spike Moore, Jeff Rine, and Jon Lee completing the top-five finishers. Bryan clawed forward three spots in the 25-lap affair to finish 11th.

The upcoming weekend – April 7-8 – has Bryan Bernheisel slated to enter a pair of Super Late Model events with trips to Bedford (Pa.) Speedway and Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway.
