Top-10 finish in MLRA Spring Nationals opener at Lucas Oil Speedway
With the Illini 100 weekend rained out, Brandon Sheppard trekked south to Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) on Friday afternoon to pilot his Valvoline No. B5 Late Model for the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) opening weekend.
With 48 Late Models packed in the pit area for the Spring Nationals doubleheader, Sheppard followed up the eighth-fastest qualifying lap in his group with a third-place finish in his heat. Starting the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature in 12th, Brandon gained four positions in the 25-lap affair to finish eighth.
On Saturday, Brandon missed a transfer spot by two cars in his heat with a fifth-place finish, relegating him into one of the two consolation races. Needing to place third or better to make the $10,000-to-win Spring Nationals finale, Sheppard fell one spot shy with a fourth-place outing.
