Oberkramer opens 2023 campaign at Wheatland for MLRA Spring Nationals
The 2023 season officially kicked off for Mason Oberkramer on Friday afternoon with a trip to Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) to compete in the opening weekend with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA).
Amassing a stout field of 48 Late Models, Oberkramer raced his way into the opener with the third-and-final transfer spot in his B-Main after finishing sixth in his heat. Inching forward three spots as he adjusted to his brand new Capital Race Car, Mason registered a 19th-place finish.
For the second round of the MLRA Spring Nationals on Saturday, Mason got off to a slow start early but was able to use a provisional into the $10,000-to-win finale. Running into trouble in the opening laps, Oberkramer shredded an oil pump belt that forced him pitside on the seventh circuit.
The team will return to action this Friday with the two-day Winter Meltdown at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.).
