Sheppard scores second-place finish in Slocum 50 at 34 Raceway
Brandon Sheppard entered his TrueTimber No. B5 Late Model into battle with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) on Thursday afternoon at Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa) for the opener of the tripleheader.
With 45 Late Models on the grounds, Sheppard qualified second-fastest in his group before placing first in his heat. Starting the feature in fourth, Brandon stole third on lap nine and began challenging front-runner Chad Simpson by the halfway point. After overtaking Simpson for the lead on lap 23 to assume command, Sheppard suffered a flat right-rear with 11 laps remaining that sidelined him for the remainder of the 40-lapper. He was scored 14th in the final rundown.
On Friday afternoon at 34 Raceway (West Burlington, Iowa) for the $10,555-to-win Slocum 50 after threatening weather forced officials to move Saturday’s main event to Friday, Brandon outran Jordan Yaggy in his heat race to pick up the win. Chasing race-long pacesetter Shannon Babb to the checkers in the 50-lap feature, Sheppard notched a runner-up finish with Ryan Gustin rounding out the podium.
