Oberkramer is victim of bad luck in two MLRA Battle at the Beach features
Mason Oberkramer of Broseley, Missouri, visited the central portion of the Show-Me State on Friday and Saturday for the third annual Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) Battle at the Beach at Lake Ozark Speedway.
The 1/3-mile track in Eldon drew 34 Dirt Late Models on Friday evening, with Oberkramer driving his Premier Flatwork No. 93 to the third-quickest time in his group qualifying session. He started on the outside of the front row in his heat and finished second, putting him sixth on the grid for the 30-lap main event.
Oberkramer ran as high as third in the $5,000-to-win race, but had a driveshaft spin on the yoke on a restart. The misfortune ended Oberkramer’s night with eight laps to go and relegated him to a 17th-place finish.
Thirty-six cars were in the pit area on Friday hoping to claim the evening’s $7,000 top prize. After a ninth-place effort in his group during qualifying, Oberkramer turned in a fifth-place finish in his heat race. By virtue of a B-Feature victory he started the 40-lap main event from the 17th position.
Bad luck befell Oberkramer once again during the weekend finale when the left-rear wheel came off the car while he was running ninth on Lap 25. Oberkramer was unable to finish the race and turned in a 20th-place result.
