Thompson takes on Modifieds at Lakeside and Stock Cars at Clay County
Cody Thompson was behind the wheel of both a Dirt Modified and Stock Car in recent days, starting his racing journey in Kansas and ending in Iowa.
On Saturday, Thompson’s Premier Industries No. 25 ride was one of 39 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries at Kansas City, Kansas’ Lakeside Speedway for the final night of the 12th annual Jayhawk Classic.
Thompson finished 10th in his heat race at Lakeside, but the driver from Sioux City, Iowa, transferred to the night’s feature event by taking the fourth and final transfer spot in his B-Main on the 4/10-mile track. He started 21st for the 40-lapper and finished in the 25th position.
Monday saw Thompson in an IMCA Stock Car at Clay County Fair Speedway (Spencer, Iowa) for the Dirt Crown Stock Car Spring Shootout. Thompson and his Park Jefferson Speedway No. 7 team were among 43 entries at the 3/8-mile clay oval looking to score the $2,000 first-prize payday.
Thompson finished 11th in his heat and was forced to retire from his B-Feature with a broken driveshaft. He came home ninth, five positions shy of a transfer spot.
