Unzicker begins Illinois Speedweek at Spoon River and Lincoln

Ryan Unzicker unloaded his RJR Transportation No. 24 Late Model at Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) on Wednesday to compete in the second edition of the Illinois Speedweek.

Drawing 48 Castrol FloRacing Night in America entries, Unzicker got buried in his heat race and wasn’t able to rally his way out of his B-Main. Following a ninth-place run in his heat, Ryan recorded a seventh-place finish in his consolation race, ending his night.

For another $23,023-to-win Castrol FloRacing Night in America event on Thursday at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Ill.), Ryan edged his way into the show with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Starting in 16th, Unzicker was an early retiree from the 50-lapper on lap 35. He was scored 19th in the final rundown.

On Friday afternoon at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.) as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) debuted at the quarter-mile oval, Unzicker’s eighth-place finish in his heat relegated him into one of the two consolation races. Shortly before his B-Main was hitting the track, a rain shower postponed the remainder of the program to Monday, May 15th.

In a field of 43 LOLMDS entries on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) for the FALS Spring Shootout, Ryan grabbed the final transfer spot in his heat, which positioned him on the eighth row for the $30,000-to-win A-Main. Retiring on lap 26, Unzicker was scored 23rd in the final rundown.

The team made the decision to scratch from their B-Main on Monday to save equipment.
