McKay Wenger debuts with Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at FCR and FALS
Friday night found McKay Wenger in action at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.) debuting with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) for the Farmer City 74.
With a stout field 43 Late Models on the grounds for the third round of the Illinois Speedweek, Wenger followed up the seventh-fastest qualifying effort in his group with a fourth-to-second showing in his heat race. Slated to start the $25,000-to-win A-Main in fifth, a brief rain shower during consolation events forced officials to postpone the 74-lapper to Monday, May 15th.
For the FALS Spring Shootout on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.), McKay grabbed the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat, which positioned him on the sixth row for the finale. With $30,000 on the line, Wenger was an early retiree from the 60-lap affair on lap 23.
Starting the rain-delayed $25,000-to-win Farmer City 74 in fifth on Monday, Wenger stayed within the top-10 for the first 50 laps and began challenging for fourth when another competitor cut down his line, damaging the nose of his car. He held onto a 14th-place finish in the 74-lap affair.
