Sabraski Snags Wins Three and Four of the Weekend at Wagamon's Ogilvie Raceway on Night 1 of the MN Mod Nationals.

Ogilvie, MN (May 27) – Night one of the 18th Annual Wehrs Machine Racing Products Minnesota Modified Nationals presented by FYE Motorsports kicked off Saturday night at the Ogilvie Raceway with 93 drivers signing in to battle. Bright blue skies welcomed drivers and fans to a great night of WISSOTA Dirt Race Action, where they witnessed Shane Sabraski win his third and fourth features of the weekend as he rolled his WISSOTA Modified and Super Stock into victory lane during the night. Dustin Holtquist, Zach Benson and Joe Wilber also claimed wins as the night concluded.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were the first feature on the agenda with Jason VandeKamp and Eric Gadach on the front row. As the drivers took the green, they were three wide as they entered the first curve. VandeKamp emerged as the early leader with Zach Benson and David Swearingen in tow. VandeKamp built up an immediate lead while Swearingen closed in on Benson. Drivers began to space out and as VandeKamp prepped to lap cars, the yellow flag waved. After a couple of restarts, Benson slid by VandeKamp for the top point, but neither Swearingen nor VandeKamp let him get too far away. One final caution slowed the drivers, but it was still Benson, VandeKamp and Swearingen in a fight for first. As the green waved, they raced three wide into the curve. Jake Smith, who started in 18th, moved into top points and challenged Nick Ayotte for fourth. The top five drivers remained close in and out of the turns of the Big O, and as the checkers were raised, Zach Benson took the win. David Swearingen, Jake Smith, Jason VandeKamp and Nick Ayotte rounded out the top five.

Father, Son team of Dustin and Robert Holtquist led the WISSOTA Mod Fours to the green for the night’s next race. After a quick caution, Dustin Holtquist took the lead with Tyler Larson and Tommy Pogones side by side for second. Pogones grabbed the point and began to chase Dustin Holtquist as laps ticked by. The remainder of the race ran caution free which allowed the drivers to space out and settle into positions. Dustin Holtquist led the entire race and took the win with Tommy Pogones, Tyler Larson, Tommy Bawden and Robert Holtquist as the top five.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks took the clay for the next feature with Dexton Koch and Shane Sabraski leading the way. A quick caution reset the field, but as the green reappeared, Koch sped off with the lead. Sabraski didn’t let Koch get away as he raced to the door of the #78k. The top two drivers remained door to door a couple laps, until Sabraski’s #7a broke away from Koch. Sabraski slowly stretched his lead and set his cruise control the remainder of the race. Dexton Koch, Trevor Nelson and Dan Nissalke finished in points two through five when the checkers flew, as Shane Sabraski took his second Super Stock feature win of Mod National’s weekend.

After a quick car change, Shane Sabraski and Jack Rivord led the WISSOTA Modifieds down the front-chute as their green flew. After racing 20 laps in the Super Stock, Sabraski was at it again as he emerged as the Modified leader. Rivord and Wagamon battled for second until Wagamon snagged the point. With just a handful of laps in, cars spaced out and Sabraski encountered slower drivers. As Sabraski began to calculate each move he made, Wagamon closed a bit of the gap Sabraski had. Modifieds now covered the entire race surface and drivers battled door to door for positions. Top competitors were in heavy lapped traffic which allowed Jody Bellefeuille to sneak past Wagamon for second. The race ran flag to flag with no yellows, and as lap 35 was completed, Shane Sabraski grabbed his second win of the night and fourth win of the weekend. Jody Bellefeuille, Ryan Gierke, Clayton Wagamon and Mike Anderson rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Hornets capped off the night’s race events with Bobie Arnes and Marcus Ammerman on row one. As the drivers rounded the first curve, Joe Wilber took advantage of the space between the drivers making Arnes and Ammerman race three wide with Wilber for the lead. A couple cautions reset the field, with Wilber bringing the drivers back to green. Arnes and Ammerman never let Wilber out of their sight, as they raced door to door for second and within Wilber’s bumper. They remained in this formation as laps went by, but neither Ammerman nor Arnes had anything for Joe Wilber as he took the checkers in his #OK cars. Bobie Arnes settled for second while Marcus Ammerman, Brady Albertson and Brandon Nyberg earned points two through five.
