Top-10 finish with XR Super Series at Kokomo Speedway
Dale McDowell unloaded his Shane McDowell Racing No. 17m Late Model at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Thursday afternoon to compete in the 29th running of the Dirt Late Model Dream.
With the 95-car field split into two groups, McDowell raced his way into his prelim with a third-place finish in his heat. With $12,000 on the line, Dale dropped two positions in the 25-lapper to finish 12th.
For another round of preliminary features on Friday, Dale followed up the 15th-fastest lap in his time trial group with a fourth-place finish in his heat. Starting the $12,000-to-win A-Main in 15th, McDowell clawed forward one spot to record a 14th-place finish.
With preliminary points placing him on the third row of his heat race on Saturday, McDowell recorded a fifth-place finish, relegating him into a B-Main for one final shot at the $129,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream. Taking the top-two, Dale locked his spot into the finale with a fifth-to-second run. Rolling off 23rd, McDowell passed nine cars to finish 14th.
The extended race weekend drew to a close on Monday for McDowell at Kokomo Speedway (Kokomo, Ind.) where he was awarded a provisional into the $100,000-to-win XR Super Series sanctioned program after failing to qualifying out of prelims. Wheeling his way into the top-10, Dale gained 13 spots in the 100-lap affair to register a 10th-place finish.
