Ramirez grabs top-5 finish in USMTS run at Arrowhead Speedway

Dereck Ramirez followed the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) to Colcord, Oklahoma’s Arrowhead Speedway on Thursday through Saturday to participate in the inaugural ARMI Contractors All-American at the state-of-the-art 1/3-mile track.

When action commenced on Thursday evening, Ramirez was one of 55 USMTS competitors on the property seeking the opening night’s $3,000 top prize. He drove his Boomtest Well Service No. 4R Modified to a fifth-place result in his heat race and grabbed the fifth and final transfer spot in his B-Main. He started 23rd in the 35-lap feature race and gained five positions to score an 18th-place finish.

The following night, Ramirez had his best program of the weekend with 58 USMTS Modifieds in the pits. He finished second in his heat and started 11lth in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win A-Main. Ramirez ran as high as fourth late in the race before ultimately finishing in the fifth spot. He followed Rodney Sanders, Jake Timm, Jeremy Nelson and Tanner Mullens under the checkered flag.

The three-day event wrapped up on Saturday with 55 USMTS competitors looking to claim the night’s $20,023 first-place payout. Ramirez drove to a second-place result in his heat and won his B-Main to start 15th in the 50-lap finale. He finished in the 11th position.

Ramirez, the 2021 USMTS champion, has now climbed to fourth in the point standings with just two events remaining.
