McDowell fourth in WoO World Finals at Charlotte
The 17th running of the annual World of Outlaws World Finals brought Shane McDowell Racing and Dale McDowell to The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) to kick off the four-day event with a pair of qualifying sessions on Wednesday night.
With the 74-car field split in two, McDowell followed up the third-fastest lap in his group in his first qualifying session with the fast time honors in his second attempt.
Earning a front-row starting spot for his heat race on Thursday, McDowell stormed into the $15,000-to-win opener with a flag-to-flag victory over Ricky Thornton Jr. He steered his E-Z-GO Solutions No. 17m Late Model to a fifth-place finish in the 35-lapper.
For another round of prelims on Friday, Dale came in first in his heat before rolling to a second-place finish in the feature.
On Saturday, Dale secured his spot into the $25,000-to-win World Finals finale with his third heat victory of the weekend. Notching his fourth consecutive top-five finish, McDowell posted a fourth-place performance in the 50-lap affair. He trailed Ricky Thornton Jr., Mike Marlar, and Chris Madden across the line with Garrett Smith coming in fifth.
