Chris Ferguson improves five spots in World Finals prelim at Charlotte
For the 17th running of the annual World of Outlaw World Finals, Chris Ferguson made the short trip to The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) to kick off the four-day event with a pair of qualifying rounds on Wednesday.
With both time trial sessions setting heat lineups for Thursday and Friday, Ferguson timed in 13th-fastest in his group round before going 19th-quickest in his second session.
Pinned on the third row of his heat race on Thursday, contact with the fence early eight-lapper dropped him to eighth. He nearly revived his chance of qualifying for the preliminary feature with a ninth-to-fourth run in his B-Main but missed a transfer position by two cars.
On Friday, Chris followed up a fifth-place finish in his heat with a second-place showing in his consolation race, locking him into the final $15,000-to-win prelim. Starting in 22nd, Ferguson gained five spots in the 35-lapper to register a 17th-place finish.
For Friday’s finale, Ferguson failed to transfer out of his heat but went onto qualify for the $25,000-to-win World Finals main event with a fourth-to-first showing in his B-Main. Rolling off on the 10th row, Chris was an early retiree on lap 22.
