Oakley Invades The Dome
Oakley Johns made his debut in the Castrol Gateway Dirt Nationals (St. Louis, Mo.) over the weekend. With 127 Super Late Models in action, Oakley embarked on his qualifying night on Friday evening against a field of 64 entries.
Starting the weekend by qualifying 23rd fastest in his group, he bounced back in his heat race to advance from eighth-to-fourth. With only the Top-2 finishers moving onto the feature, Oakley was relegated to a B-Main, and came up one spot short of a transfer with a fourth-place finish.
Via his performance in preliminary action, Oakley lined up sixth on the starting grid for his qualifier on Saturday. With only the Top-2 finishers moving onto the finale, his night came to an end in the seventh position.
While, Johns didn't reach his goal of qualifying for the finale, he and the team still had a blast and learned a lot for next year.
