Bagley charges hard in Vado season opener

Morgan Bagley traveled west to begin his 2024 season with the 18th annual Wild West Shootout at Vado (N.M.) Speedway Park, where he made his presence known behind the wheel of his P&W Sales No. 14M Super Late Model througout the event’s opening weekend.

When the six-day show got underway on Saturday, Bagley was one of 44 Super Late Model drivers in the pit area at the 3/8-mile speed plant.

He finished sixth in his heat race, then moved into fourth coming to the white flag in his B-Feature to grab the final transfer spot into the evening’s 40-lap, $11,000-to-win main event. Bagley started 24th in the feature and battled his way forward nine positions to finish 15th. He ended the race tied with Dustin Sorensen and Kyle Larson for most cars passed.

Sunday’s action saw Bagley finish ninth in his heat, putting him in a B-Main. He was closing in on a transfer spot when the caution flew and he found himself pinned on the outside of a track where the bottom was dominant. He ultimately came home in the sixth spot.

However, Bagley had one final opportunity to make the show through the dash, where the victor chooses to transfer or pocket $1,000. Bagley mounted a valiant challenge for the top spot, but settled for second behind Justin Duty, bringing his evening to an end before the 40-lap, $11,000-to-win A-Main.

The remaining portion of the Wild West Shootout kicks off on Wednesday, January 10.
