Pair of Top-10's for Troutman in Wild West Shootout at Vado Speedway Park
For the third round of the 18th annual Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout, Drake Troutman returned to Vado Speedway Park (Vado, N.M.) on Wednesday to pilot his Wheeler Fleet Solutions No. 7 Late Model.
Amongst a field of 39 Late Models, Troutman stopped the clock second-fastest in his group before streaking to an eight-lap heat race victory. Receiving the pole via the redraw, Drake slipped up on the opening lap and was never able to recover, fading to ninth when the checkers flew.
For another $11,000-to-win program on Friday, Drake raced into the A-Main with a third-place finish in his heat. Scoring another top-10 finish, Troutman posted a consistent 10th-place outing.
On Saturday, Troutman’s eighth-to-fourth showing in his heat positioned him on the seventh row for the feature. With an $11,000 top prize prize up for grabs, Drake was scored 20th in the final rundown after retiring with six laps remaining in the 40-lapper.
The Wild West Shootout wrapped on Sunday with Drake qualifying for the $25,000-to-win finale with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Rolling off 13th, Troutman pulled off on lap 46 while running 11th.
