Cowan races to podium finish in Winter Freeze finale at Screven Motor Speedway
On Friday afternoon, both Cowan brothers invaded Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Ga.) to compete in the second night of the Winter Freeze XIV.
Among 34 Southern All Star Late Models, Haiden clocked in seventh-fastest in qualifying which automatically locked him into the $3,000-to-win main event. Running inside the Top-10 for much of the feature, Cowan pulled off with just two laps remaining which relegated him to a 16th-place finish.
Gavin competed in the 602 division on Friday evening where he would qualify fifth out of 35 entries. In the 20-lap A-Main, Gavin recorded a DNF after pulling in early.
Hoping for better luck in Saturday's $12,000 finale, Haiden charged forward in his heat race to earn the pole position in the main event. Losing the battle for the lead on the initial start, Cowan remained inside the Top-3 and crossed the checkered in third. Haiden landed on the podium behind Brandon Overton and Garrett Smith while Payton Freeman and Wil Herrington completed the Top-5.
