Trio of top-10 finishes for Taylor in Clash on the Coast
As February turned to March, “The Animal” Jeff Taylor turned south to Florida to compete in the IMCA Modified portion of the Clash on the Coast paying $1,000 to win each night.
The weeklong series kicked off on Monday when a staggering 99 Modifieds packed the pit area of Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, Florida. Taylor started strong with a win in his heat race on the quarter-mile track, positioning him in the fourth starting spot for the 25-lap feature. He recorded a second-place finish after taking the checkered flag just 0.476 seconds behind Jeff Larson. Dylan Thornton, Joel Rust and Brian Mullen completed the top five.
The next night, an impressive 93 Modifieds were on the track grounds. Taylor raced from eighth to second in his Tuesday heat and finished 11th in the 25-lap feature after starting in the 15th position.
On Thursday, the venue shifted to Milton, Florida’s 3/8-mile Southern Raceway, where 89 Modified competitors registered for battle. Taylor began the evening by again driving from eighth to second in his heat race. He started 10th in the 25-lap A-Main and came home sixth.
The event drew to a close on Saturday with 73 Modifieds at Southern Raceway. Taylor was runner-up in his heat race and climbed from a 10th-place starting spot to finish sixth in the 25-lap finale.
Taylor finished third in the series final point standings, just six markers behind champion Jeff Larson and a single point in back of second-place points finisher Joel Rust.
