Benji Hicks scores 602 Late Model victory; pair of Top-5 finishes at Ultimate and Cherokee
Kicking off a busy Easter weekend, Benji Hicks competed in both the 602 and Super Late Model divisions at Ultimate Motorsports & RV Park (Elkin, N.C.) on Friday afternoon for the Doug Walls Memorial.
With 43 Mid-East Super Late Models checked in, Hicks earned his spot in the $10,000-to-win feature after running third in his heat race. With 48-laps to make a move from the fifth-row, Benji quickly stormed to second-place and battled for the lead before fading late to finish fifth. He trailed Daulton Wilson, Ben Watkins, Casey Roberts, and Carson Ferguson.
In 602 Late Model competition, Benji topped the 20-car field in qualifying and led flag-to-flag in the 20-lap feature to pick up the victory worth $1,200. He outran Evan Koehler and Cole Apple to the checkered flag.
Making the quick trip to Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) on Saturday evening, Hicks qualified second-fastest among 25 Ultimate Super Late Models and wound up with a fourth-place outing in the $7,500-to-win feature.
