Runner-up finishes for RTJ in MLRA Spring Nationals at Wheatland
Ricky Thornton Jr. returned to the driver’s seat of the SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model on Friday at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) as the two-day Spring Nationals served as the season opener for the Lucas Oil LateModel Racing Association (MLRA).
Following a second-place finish in his heat race, Thornton climbed five positions in the $7,000-to-win, 30-lap opener to place second, chasing Jonathan Davenport to the checkers.
On Saturday, Thornton’s fourth-to-second run in his heat race positioned him on the third row for the $20,000-to-win MLRA Spring Nationals finale. Rolling to another runner-up finish in the 60-lap feature behind Jonathan Davenport, Ricky passed four cars to bring home a podium outing.
