Ahumada Jr. claims USRA top-10 finishes at Humboldt

With slated Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) action at Louisiana’s Boothill Speedway rained out, Carlos Ahumada Jr. instead opted to race in Kansas at Humboldt Speedway over the weekend.

Ahumada’s United States Racing Association (USRA) Modified was one of 21 in the pit area when the Battle at the Bullring kicked off on Thursday at the quarter-mile oval in Humboldt, Kansas. The El Paso, Texas, driver picked up a victory in his heat race and rolled from the sixth position in the 20-lap A-Main. He advanced one spot to score a top-five result, finishing behind Dan Ebert, Gabe Hodges, D.J. Shannon and Tanner Mullens.

On Friday, the inaugural night of the USRA Heartland Modified Tour (HMT) brought 37 Modifieds to Humboldt Speedway. Ahumda recorded a DNF and a ninth-place result in his heat, but charged from 15th to take the runner-up spot in his B-Main. He turned in another stout showing in the 30-lap, $2,000-to-win feature as he passed 12 cars to post a top-10 finish after starting 22nd.

With another $2,000 up for grabs for the HMT win on Saturday, 38 USRA Modifieds filled the pit area. In a near repeat of the previous night, Ahumada once again took ninth in his heat race after a DNF. However, he motored from 16th on the grid to take the win in his “B.” He then began the 30-lap main event from the 21st position and moved forward throughout the race for the second consecutive night. He ultimatley came home 12th.
