Tanner Mullens takes two HMT top-10 results on Mother’s Day weekend
With the Summit USMTS National Championship schedule featuring open dates on Friday and Saturday, Tanner Mullens decided to take on USRA Heartland Modified Tour (HMT) competition in Missouri.
On Friday, Mullens competed at the 1/3-mile Midway Speedway in Lebanon as part of a 33-car field. He drove his Fuqua Trucking No. 02 Modified to a third-place finish in his heat, putting him ninth on the grid to start the $2,000-to-win A-Main. Mullens marched to a second-place result, finishing behind winner Kris Jackson. Chad Wheeler, Darron Fuqua and Tad Davis completed the top five.
Saturday saw the Show-Me State swing move to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, where an impressive 50 USRA Modifieds packed the pit area. Mullens finished fifth in his heat on the 3/8-mile “Diamond of Dirt Tracks,” putting him in a B-Main. After a runner-up finish in the “B,” he started 19th in the 30-lap, $2,000-to-wn main event. Mullens climbed 11 positions in the feature to come home in the eighth spot.
