2024 Season Opener & REBEL TOUR - Results & Recap

It was a very good start to the 2024 racing season at the Jamestown Speedway on Saturday night, May 25th sponsored by RM Stoudt Inc. It was a very busy night as the grandstands were quite full, there were 152 cars in the pits, and lots of camaraderie throughout the night as everyone was happy to be back at a race track. There was a lot of great racing and tons of hard-fought battles throughout the night. With the hard-fought racing, it led to several cautions in each class, but lucky no major accidents.

Good job to the track prep crew for their hard work this past weekend. The track had character, especially in turns 1-2, as the Speedway received over 2 inches of rain and very cold temperatures on Friday. Therefore, we tried everything to keep the bumps under control, but the surface was definitely soft from all of the moisture. However, the track was very racy and had a bunch of side by side battles during the feature events. Overall, it was a great night for racing and as mentioned above, we had a great car count of 152 cars in the pits to do battle and it was a pleasure hosting opening night of the REBEL MW MOD TOUR on Saturday Night!

Bombers/Hobby Stocks - 20 Cars:

• Winner: Asher Williams, Runner-Up: Kelly Hoerner
• Hard Charger: Cade Gentzkow +11 (18th to 7th)

A fast and hard fought race in the Hobby Stocks. A lot of drivers were mixing up positions up front during the feature event. Dylan Steele and rookie Brody Michaelsohn were having a great battle up front until a caution came out and a restart ensued that took Brody out of the race. After that, it looked like Dylan Steele was going to win the race, but unfortunately, he cut down a tire on the restart with 2 laps to go and it allowed for Asher Williams to get around him on the low side of the Speedway and Kelly Hoerner to make a bid for his first Jamestown Speedway win. Asher held off Kelly across the line to pick up the win on his High School Graduation weekend. Kelly Hoerner finished 2nd, his daughter, Karlie Hoerner finished 3rd from 10th, Ryker Vetter finished 4th from 14th, and Tanner Jacobson rounded out the top 5.

INEX Legends (Sponsored by Wright Insurance Agency) - 35 Cars:

• Winner: Preston Martin, Runner-Up: Noah Madler
• Hard Charger: Dayton Olheiser +11 (24th to 13th)

There was a bunch of side by side and close racing in the Legends feature race. Ryan Erdahl held off all of the hot shoes behind him for the first 5 laps as Preston Martin was coming to the front along with Noah Madler, Austin Wiest, Bryce Barnhardt, Donavin Wiest, and Collin Compson. Unfortunately, Ryan Erdahl's night would end early due to a mechanical failure on a restart, which gave the lead over to Preston Martin, the defending track champion and Legends Pro National Champion. Preston though would have his hands full with a hard-charging Noah Madler as Preston was running the high-side of the 1/4 mile and Noah was running next to the wall on the bottom of the Speedway.
The drivers put on a great show as they were side-by-side taking the white flag and Preston got a better run off of turn 4 to hold off Noah for the victory. Noah Madler ended up taking 2nd, Bryce Barnhardt had a great run up in 3rd and challenged for the lead several times, Austin Wiest was 4th, and Glenn Mitchell ended up taking home 5th.

Wissota Midwest Modifieds (REBEL TOUR & Sponsored by Gerdau Recycling) - 37 Cars:

• Winner: Lucas Rodin, Runner-Up: Jaren Wibstad
• Hard Charger: Aaron Michel +12 (21st to 9th)

This race was very entertaining and exciting. Thank you to the REBEL MOD TOUR for joining us for opening night at the Jamestown Speedway and all of the drivers that came from several states and Canada to come race. During the early stages of the 25 lap feature race, it was Jaren Wibstad, defending track champion, that held the lead, but behind Wibstad, the battle was on for second place between Brennon Weight, Justin Jones, Lucas Rodin, Nate Reinke, and Arin Beyer. Weight was closing in on Wibstad before a caution came out that slowed the field about 10 laps into the event. On the restart, 15th starting Corey Storck was making his presence known as he was making a bid at the top 5 before he lost a drive shaft in turn 4, ending his night. This setup a great battle for the win between Jaren Wibstad, Justin Jones, and Lucas Rodin. Justin Jones made a bid for the lead on a restart, but ultimately, it was Lucas Rodin that used the middle side of the 1/4 mile to get side-by-side with Wibstad and take the lead with less than 10 laps to go. Rodin, the defending Stock Car Stampede Champion, would hold on for the win ahead of Wibstad in 2nd, Brennon Weight in 3rd, Jared Klein in 4th, and Nate Reinke in the top 5. Wissota Street Stocks - 29 Cars:

• Winner: Billie Christ, Runner-Up: Chris Welk Jr. +13 (15th to 2nd!)
• Hard Charger: Ryan Mund +15 (29th to 14th)

It was a struggle to get the Street Stock feature going as 4 cautions in the first 2 laps slowed the action, but after that, the Street Stocks put on a great show and had some great battles. They were high, low, and in the middle battling throughout the top 10 with lots of moving and shaking. Billie Christ inserted himself as the dominate car as he pulled away from Mike Mund and Cole Greseth by 2 seconds. Mike and Cole had a great battle as Mike was running the high line and Cole was running the middle to bottom line around the Speedway. They were side-by-side lap after lap, but Greseth threw a slider on Mund for second with about 10 laps remaining. The driver on the move through the field though was Chris Welk Jr as he quickly caught the battle for second place and made it a 3-car race for second. Welk Jr was running the very bottom of the track next to the wall and turning some very fast lap times.
He passed for third with 8 laps remaining and make the pass for second on Greseth with only 4 laps remaining. Unfortunately, he cut into Christ's lead some, but did have enough laps to mount a challenge for the win. Billie Christ went back-to-back for season opener wins in Jamestown, Christ Welk Jr was 2nd, Cole Greseth finished in 3rd, Mike Mund had a great run in 4th, Trey Hess, who had a side-by-side clean battle with Greg Jose all race long, finished in 5th, with Spencer Johnson in 6th, and Greg Jose in 7th. Also, we have to give a shootout to Jayden Bogh, who made his Jamestown Speedway debut on Saturday night, and moved up the field from 22nd starting place to finish in 10th.

IMCA Modifieds (Sponsored by Shocker Hitch) - 23 Cars:

• Winner: Logan Schmitz (1st IMCA Modified Win!), Runner-Up: John Nord +10 (12th to 2nd)
• Hard Charger: Andy Kapp +16 (23rd to 7th)

What a great race in the IMCA Modifieds. Logan Schmitz and Kollin Hibdon put on a show early up front as Schmitz was running the high side and Hibdon was running everywhere on the track trying to catch Schmitz. Hibdon caught Schmitz and threw a slide job on Schmitz in turns 3-4, but unfortunately, the leaders made contact that caused a caution for Hibdon. Hibdon restarted tail end and worked his way back into the top 10 before retiring with a mechanical problem towards the end of the race. However, there were several drivers moving through the field and John Nord was next challenger for Logan Schmitz. Nord was running the low side of the 1/4 mile and pulled along side Schmitz multiple times, but could not complete the pass. While battling up front, Marcus Tomlinson, Chris Tuchscherer, Isaac Sondrol, Matt Duchscherer, Scott Gartner, and John Corell were having an awesome battle from 3rd through 8th. Tomlinson was on the bottom and moving through the field as he started back in 19th and moved his way into the top 5 within the first 15 laps of the feature event. A restart occurred with 5 laps remaining and Logan Schmitz ended up driving away from the field to pick up his first career IMCA Modified feature win, John Nord finished a hard-fought 2nd, Chris Tuchscherer was 3rd, Marcus Tomlinson moved up 15 spots to finish 4th, Matt Duchscherer was 5th. Andy Kapp didn't get a chance to start his heat race, but had an awesome run through the field in the feature to finish in 7th from 23rd.

Slingshots - 8 Cars:
Winner: Jaxon Carow, Runner-Up: Aubrie Edinger

Next week Saturday, June 1st is Big Rig Night at the Speedway with all regular classes running! The grandstand gates open at 5:30 pm and racing action begins at 7:00 pm.
