Ahumada Jr. takes on USMTS competition in Wisconsin and Minnesota

Carlos Ahumada Jr. and his Hacienda Motorsports No. 65x Modified team traveled to the Upper Midwest over Memorial Day weekend to take part in a pair of Summit USMTS shows.

On Friday, Ahumada was among 42 USMTS drivers at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin, for the 13th annual USMTS Spring Shootout. The driver from El Paso, Texas, grabbed a second-place result in his heat race on the 1/3-mile track and started the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature from the 10th position. However, he faded during the race and recorded a 27th-place result.

The next night, 50 USMTS Modified teams descended on Spring Valley, Minnesota’s Deer Creek Speedway for the 21st annual LR Waste Services Southern Minnesota Spring Challenge. After finishing 10th in his heat on the 3/8-mile oval, Ahumada moved from 18th to 12th in his B-Main. Unfortunatley, it wasn’t enough to transfer to the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature.

Sunday’s slated ninth annual USMTS Mod Mania at the 1/3-mile Mason City Motor Speedway in Mason City, Iowa, was rained out.
