Kyle Hammer races into Illinois Dirt Shootout at Fairbury Speedway
With a huge Memorial Day weekend planned, Kyle Hammer unloaded his Valley Companies No. 45 Modified at Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway for the $20,000-to-win Illinois Dirt Shootout with the MARS Championship Modified Series.
With a whopping 122 Mods checked in for the weekend, Hammer qualified fifth-quickest in his group before picking up the victory in the eighth heat race. Rolling off from the pole in the second feature of the evening, Kyle ran inside the Top-5 until a mechanical issue ended his night with only four laps remaining.
Friday's second preliminary day was cancelled due to rain.
Charging to a third-place finish in his B-Main on Saturday, Kyle earned his spot in the $20,000-to-win finale. Rolling off 21st with 60-laps to work with, Hammer only completed 18 laps before pulling off.
