Oakley Johns powers through busy Fourth of July weekend; fifth-place outing with DIRTcar Summer Nationals
With Fourth of July weekend on the horizon, Oakley Johns kicked off his busy week of racing on Thursday afternoon at Tennessee National Raceway (Hohenwald, Tenn.) competing in the 602 Late Model division.
Qualifying third-quickest out of 25 entries, Johns stared sixth in the $4,000-to-win main event and gained four positions to place runner-up to Bryson Mitchell.
Back behind the wheel of his familiar No. C6 Super Late Model on Saturday, Oakley was one of 36 DIRTcar Summer National Late Models checked in at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway.
Finishing second in his heat race, Oakley kept his nose clean in the hectic $10,000-to-win feature and landed a Top-5 finish in fifth.
Wrapping up the weekend at Duck River Raceway Park (Shelbyville, Tenn.) on Sunday, Johns started ninth in the $6,000-to-win Super Late Model special and scored a podium outing in third. He trailed Camaron Marlar and Christian Hanger while Jordan Horton and Cruz Skinner completed the Top-5.
