Civic Holiday Doubleheader Up Next at Merrittville Speedway

THOROLD, ONTARIO (July 29, 2024) … The tradition of racing on Civic Holiday Weekend at the Merrittville Speedway will be continuing this coming weekend, with racing on both Saturday, August 3, and Monday, August 5. Saturday night action will be highlighted by the Bill Willard Sr Sterling Silver Event for the DIRTcar Sportsman, plus a full Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series program. Monday will be the 3rd Annual Canadian Grand Nationals, where one lucky fan will win $1000, and a young race fan will win 1000 pieces of candy.

Both race nights will feature the Commercial Auto Electric 358 Modifieds, Semenuk’s ESSO/Baron Roofing DIRTcar Sportsman, Hoosier Stocks, RONA/Doidge Building Centre Mod Lites, and the Vansickle Pet Valu/PV on the Lane 4 Cylinders.

Niagara Employment Help Centre will present the racing action on Saturday, August 3. Saturday night, which features the 35th Anniversary Bill Willard Sr Sterling Silver Event. Bill Willard Sr not only supported his grandkids Bill Jr and Tammy’s racing efforts but supported the stock car and jalopy divisions dating back to the very beginning of Merrittville Speedway. Bill Sr passed away in 1991 and the who’s who of racing have won this prestigious event. 358 Modified drivers Chad Brachmann (1998,1999,2001), Mat Williamson (2006-2007), Justin Sharp (2013), James Michael Friesen (2014), Brad Rouse (2012,2015-2017, 2018), and Dylan Davidson (2019-2020) are just some that have won this race during their Sportsman careers. Cody McPherson is a three-time and defending race winner. Cody won his first in 2011, and has gone back-to-back in 2022 and 2023.

Saturday night, Pit gates will open at 5pm, with grandstands opening at 5:30, and racing will get underway at 7pm.
