Sanders steers to trio of top-10 finishes across 2 states
Rodney Sanders took on a diverse and challenging schedule from Monday through Saturday as he raced in Iowa and Wisconsin.
On Monday, Sanders was part of a 23-car One Nation Under Modifieds (ONUM) field on the first night of The Davenport Deal at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway. He opened the evening at the quarter-mile track with a pair of fourth-place finishes in his heat races aboard his Sanitation Resources Inc. No. 20 Modified, putting him 13th on the grid to start the $2,000-to-win feature. He powered forward eight positions in the 30-lapper to come home fifth behind Cade Dillard, Brian Ruhlman, Jim Chisholm and Austen Becerra.
The following two nights of the event, including Wednesday,’s $20,000-to-win finale, were rained out.
On Friday, Sanders embarked on a weekend swing through Wisconsin as part of the RacinDirt.com Thunder Summer Series featuring USRA Modifieds, starting at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City. Nineteen Modified teams were at the 1/3-mile oval chasing a $2,112 winner’s share. Sanders charged from seventh to take the checkered flag in his heat and rolled off fifth in the 30-lap A-Main. He finished fourth, crossing the start-finish line behind Joe Chisholm, Jake Timm and Jim Chisolm. Brandon Davis completed the top five.
The next night, Sanders raced among 25 USRA Modified competitors at the 3/8-mile Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin. Sanders took fourth in his heat race, putting him on the seventh row to start the 30-lap, $5,000-to-win main event. He moved forward six spots and claimed a seventh-place result.
