Elma, WA -
Saturday evening during the Grays Harbor County Fair saw first time winners in the Modifieds with Robert Jenner, and Randy Goodman in the Hornets, and defending Super Stock champion Austin Kerrigan picked up win number 3 on the season in 4 races.
IMCA Modifieds were back on the track after a couple weeks off. After multiple tries at starting on a very tricky and hard to read surface due to the earlier start time we finally got going and Robert Jenner who originally started 10th when all said and done started on the pole and led every lap to get his first win at Grays Harbor Raceway. The battle behind him was tight between Austin Rognlin, Brenton Schnitzer, Don Martin, Zane Miner until Zane Miner would spin on lap 8 and Don Martin would have trouble on lap 10 which would let Tyson Blood and Jason told battle for the top 5 with Craig Moore. At the end it would be a 3 second win for Robert Jenner over Austin Rognlin, Brenton Schnitzer, Tyson Blood (from 21st) and Jason Tole rounding out the top 5.
In the Super Stocks Scott Fritts would lead the first two laps until Larry Palladin would pass him for 2 laps then Austin Kerrigan would temporarily get around for a lap and then would slip up in turn 3 and 4 allowing Palladin back by for 5 laps until A. Kerrigan would regroup and power back by on the outside and sail on to the win followed by Larry Palladin, Scott Fritz, Shane Kerrigan, Jayson Wolcott, and Steve Vonheeder.
In the Hornets it was a wild event with lots of interesting developments. Payton Harding would lead early with a huge fair crowd cheering her on every lap looking really strong but a caution would come out on lap 7 tightening up the field. Cory Sweating who came in with a 5 win streak and thus with class rules had to start in the rear of the field got to 2nd and on the restart Harding spun leading going into turn 1 and 2. That would give the lead to Cory Sweatman who would lead until lap 11 when disaster would strike when then slowing Jeff Hatton made a move to get off the track and a fast closing Sweatman thought he could clear on the high side and ended up making hard contact into the wall by the exit and would quickly exit the car under his own power. Officials ended up shortening due to time a couple laps so on the green white checkered Jacob Saulsbury would restart as the leader and Randy Goodman would jump into second on white flag and then pass and get his first win on the last lap. Jason Parmelee would finish second, Jacob Saulsbury 3rd, Payton Harding would battle back to 4th and Austin Kerrigan in the Max Sanford owned car would finish 5th.
