Berry Jr. masters Marshalltown
Tom Berry Jr.’s three-race weekend slate at a trio of Iowa tracks kicked off in stellar fashion on Friday as he scored an IMCA Modified win at Marshalltown Speedway.
Friday night’s $2,000-to-win program brought 17 Modified competitors to the quarter-mile “MoTown” track, including Berry in his familiar Brodehl Trucking No. 11x. He drove to a fifth-place result in his heat race, putting him sixth on the grid for the 20-lap feature. He climbed five positions in the A-Main to take his 13th feature-event checkered flag of the year over Dylan Thornton, Tripp Gaylord, Cody Laney and Tim Ward.
The next two nights, Berry hopped aboard a Pro Late Model to compete in the PRO Late Model Victory Ford Tour at Independence Motor Speedway and Benton County Speedway.
First up, he was part of a 17-car field at the 3/8-mile track in Independence on Saturday evening. Berry grabbed sixth in his heat and started the 20-lap, $1,000-to-win feature from the 12th spot. He came home 11th.
On Sunday, Berry followed the tour to the quarter-mile Benton County Speedway, located in Vinton in the Hawkeye State. He was one of 20 Pro Late Model drivers looking for a $1,250 winner’s share. Berry nabbed a third-place result in his heat race, starting him on the fifth row in the 30-lap main event. He picked up three spots and finished sixth.
