Mullens posts trio of HMT top-10 finishes in the Show-Me State

From Friday through Sunday, Kansas native Tanner Mullens competed at tree tracks in neighboring Missouri with the USRA Heartland Modified Tour (HMT). Along the way, he grabbed a best result of second and finished no worse than seventh.

The racing slate kicked off on Friday evening with a $2,000-to-win program that brought 25 cars to the 1/3-mile Electric City Speedway in Butler. Mullens took fifth in his heat race behind the wheel of his Sandlian Iron & Metal No. 02 Modified, then started the 30-lap A-Main from 19th. He rocketed ahead 12 positions to claim an impressive seventh-place finish.

On Saturday, the HMT schedule shifted to Nevada Speedway, where 26 USRA Modifieds were in the pit area for another $2,000-to-win show. Mullens took the checkers in his heat on the quarter-mile oval and started the feature from the fourth position. He was strong throughout the 30-lapper and finished as runner-up behind Rodney Sanders. Gary Christian, Tyler Wolff and Dakota Dale completed the top five.

The following night, the three-race weekend wrapped up at Monett Motor Speedway with the Larry Phillips Memorial. Mullens was among 43 Modified entrants for the $7,575-to-win special event. The night’s program included qualifying, and Mullens set the overall quickest time with a 16.922-second lap around the 3/8-mile track. He won his heat race and finished sixth in the pole dash, putting him on the third row to start the 40-lap A-Main. He slipped one spot in the race and came home seventh.

Despite not racing full-time on the tour, Mullens currently occupies the 10th spot in the HMT point standings.
