Hahn Records First Podium Finish of the Season at 81 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - PARK CITY, Kan. (June 4, 2013) - Brandon Hahn recorded his first podium finish of the season on Saturday at 81 Speedway.

After the Hinchman Racewear Eagle Nationals was flooded out, his team changed plans to complete a weekend doubleheader in Kansas.

Hahn lined up seventh in his heat race on the 3/8-mile oval.

"We were really good in hot laps, but the modified guys blew off the race track in such a hurry," he said. "I was just way too loose and couldn't go anywhere. I got one car and that's it."

After finishing sixth in his heat race, Hahn lined up sixth in the main event. Following a handful of setup changes to the car, he headed to the track for what turned out to be a wild start to the feature.

"It was chaos," he said. "The first start was a false start. The second start some guy flipped. And then I think we made one lap and another guy flipped. The fourth restart I passed two cars getting into (turn) one and that was it. In the A Feature we had a much better car. I could actually drive it hard and keep my momentum up."

He rallied to finish a season-best third in only his second appearance at 81 Speedway.

The weekend started on Friday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Salina Speedway in nearby Salina, where Hahn struggled to find grip on the slick track. He faded from fourth to seventh in his heat race, which put him toward the back of the feature.

"I couldn't come off of (turn) two to save my life," he said of his heat race. "I could get into one and hold my speed through the middle of the corner, but I'd be so loose coming off two. We went backwards. They all got me coming out of two."

Starting 21st in the main event, Hahn's team made several changes to tighten the setup as the track became more slick with each lap.

"We tightened it up a whole bunch," he said. "I could finally keep my speed up and not just get my doors blown off. That's where I personally think I need the most improvement is with the slicker race tracks and the throttle control. I need to work on all areas, but slick race tracks are my kryptonite."

Hahn finished 18th and he advanced to 10th in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour standings.

He is taking this weekend off before the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Speedweek, which features six races in nine days, begins Friday, June 14, at Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas.
