Austin Holcombe makes history at World Short Track Championship with Mid-East Crate Modifieds

World of Outlaws World Finals Up Next

ELM CITY, N.C. (11/05/24) – Austin Holcombe made World Short Track Championship history over the weekend with his third career Hoosier Racing Tire Mid-East Crate Modified victory at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Saturday night aboard his Prime Electrical Solutions No. 8A Owens Construction / Lethal Chassis Modified.

The Elm City, N.C., racer is tied with Jeff Parsons for the most wins in the division after leading flag-to-flag in Saturday night’s finale.

Holcombe earned a $1,500 winner’s payday for the triumph that marked his ninth victory of the season.

“This Crate car — it sits here all year; we run a few races a year with this Crate car and it’s just always good to us,” Holcombe said. “It’s nice to come to Charlotte and it’s nice to win.”

A doubleheader duty weekend kicked off for Austin Holcombe on Thursday afternoon at The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) for the ninth annual World Short Track Championship.

With preliminaries spread across Thursday and Friday, Holcombe topped the speed charts in the Crate Modified ranks while finishing eighth in the 15-lap championship feature set for the UMP Modifieds.

Back in action on Friday, Austin raced his way into both main events on Saturday night with strong finishes in his respective heat races. He backed up an eight-lap victory in his Crate Modified with a third-place finish in the DIRTcar UMP Modified ranks.

Capping off the weekend in World Short Track Championship Victory Lane, Holcombe soared to his second straight Mid-East Crate Modified triumph and third overall in Saturday night’s finale. He banked the $1,500 paycheck ahead of Stephen Pedulla and Jesse Rockett.

In the DIRTcar UMP Modified division, Austin muscled forward four positions in the 25-lap affair to register a seventh-place finish.

For Holcombe, his successful weekend was paved by how he kicked off the marquee event in preliminaries on Thursday.

“It’s all about Qualifying good; you’ve got to start up front, and you need a lot of luck,” Holcombe added. “It worked out for us. We drew the [#1 redraw pill], and anytime you can start out front against any of these guys and you haven’t got to try and pass the cars, it’s just a win in the books right there.”

Holcombe is set to return to the famed 4/10-mile North Carolina oval this coming weekend for the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series World Finals. Following Wednesday’s scheduled time trial session, a pair of $15,000-to-win preliminaries on Thursday and Friday set the stage for Saturday’s finale, which offers a $25,000 top prize.
