Brody Monahan and Brandon Lopez pick up 6 top-10 finishes to begin World Series

The Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR) team returned to action at New Smyrna Speedway over the weekend to kick off the 59th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. During the first four days of competition in the Pro Late Model class at the half-mile oval, drivers Brody Monahan and Brandon Lopez picked up two top-fives and six top-10 finishes between them in fields of more than 25 cars each night.

Piloting the No. 47 Whelen Engineering Chevrolet SS at the track in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Monahan began his week on Friday with the quickest time in qualifying. He redrew third and came home fifth in the 59-lap main event, trailing Hunter Wright, Jimmy Renfrew Jr., Max Reaves and Alex Labbe.

On Saturday, Monahan started fourth and finished sixth in the 50-lapper, and also came home sixth after rolling off fourth in Sunday’s 35-lap feature.

In the Monday portion of the World Series, Monahan began from 12th on the grid and advanced seven spots in the 35-lap race to finish fifth. He took the checkered flag behind Reaves, Labbe, Wright and Isaac Kitzmiller.

Meanwhile, Brandon Lopez competed in the same four races aboard the No. 6 Atlanta Paving & Construction Chevrolet SS from the BLR stable. He both started and finished ninth on Friday, then turned in a 16th-to-10th run on Saturday despite being spun early.

On Sunday, Lopez started 17th and had moved into the top 10 by the fifth circuit. However, on the next lap he was hooked hard into the backstretch wall, causing significant damage and ending his night. Although he was unhurt, he registered a 19th-place finish.

The next night, Lopez elected to start from the rear to ensure his car was dialed in for the rest of the week. He came home 17th.

The BLR Pro Late Models will hit the track again at New Smyrna on Wednesday and Thursday.
