Midwest Legends Asphalt Series

Korsmo Cashes In at Hawkeye Downs

Cedar Rapids, IA (July 12th, 2025) - It was all Kevin Korsmo as the Midwest Legends Asphalt Series visited Hawkeye Downs for the first time in the series history. It was a touching night as the annual C.O.P.S night added an additional purse to the night.

It was an eighteen car field as the series made its only trip to Iowa for the season. Qualifying was first with Dallas Kibbe taking the top time. Nick Slabaugh was second with Korsmo third. The top five was rounded out by Lincoln Cain and Danny Lehmkuhl.

Three heat races were next up, with Korsmo taking top honors in the first heat, with Kibbe and Lehmkuhl second and third. Heat two went to Kacey Korsmo with Slabaugh and Cain following up in second and third. The final heat was brought home by Mer Slabaugh while Colton Irving and Eon Lyles came back in that order on the podium.

The thirty-lap feature pulled onto the track with Kevin Korsmo and Lehmkuhl on the front row. Kevin got the jump with Lehmkuhl pulling down into second. Kacey Korsmo and Cain began battling for the third-spot before contact between the two brought out the yellow. In a show of sportsmanship, Kacey tapped out, taking the blame and allowing Cain to restart in his original spot. The race restarted and multiple cautions plagued the field for a short spree. Racing got back underway in single-file fashion with Kevin and Lehmkuhl still out front. Nick Slabaugh caught the rear of the leaders and it was nose to tail for the top three. Drama struck late in the race as while working through lapped traffic, Lehmkuhl tapped the bumper of traffic and sent him around. Lehmkuhl pulled off of the track shortly after and set up a four-lap shootout. It was Kevin, a hungry Jeremiah Davis, who was up from the last spot on the grid, and Slabaugh the top three. The green flew and Kevin once again got the best restart. The traffic swarmed and tried for the lead but could not do anything.

Kevin Korsmo drove off into the sunset on the beautiful Saturday night. Davis came home second with a hard-charger run while Slabaugh wrapped up the top three. Kacey made his way up to fourth with Kibbe rounding out the top five.

The Midwest Legends Asphalt Series has two more races in the month of July. First, a trip back to Jefferson Speedway again on the 19th and then a trip to Golden Sands Speedway a week later on the 26th.
