Tough MARS outings for Willard at Farmer City and I-55
After more than a month off, the Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship roared back to life over the weekend. Brennon Willard continued his full-season campaign but struggled in both races.
On Friday, Willard and his Allgaier Performance No. 3 Super Late Model were part of a 28-car MARS field at the quarter-mile Farmer City (Illinois) Raceway for the 15th annual Jr. Kimler Memorial. After failing to transfer into the feature through his heat race, Willard turned in a 10th-place result in his B-Main as he was unable to finish. He ultimately started 22nd in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature and recorded a 21st-place result with a DNF due to early trouble.
Saturday saw Willard compete in the $5,000-to-win MARS program at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park in Pevely, Missouri, which brought another 28-car MARS Late Model field to the 1/3-mile track. Willard again failed to qualify for the main event in his heat, and he did not complete his consolation race for the second consecutive night. He began the 30-lap feature from 22nd and came home 18th, but again registered a DNF.
Sunday’s slated MARS program at Quincy (Illinois) Raceways was rained out.
Willard currently occupies the 14th position in MARS Late Model Championship points.
