Owens Claims Duck River's Deep Fried 75 Opener with Dramatic Late Charge

LEWISBURG, Tenn. (Aug. 1) — Series points leader Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., used a dramatic late charge to surge past Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., coming to the white flag in Friday's Deep Fried 75 weekend opener at Duck River Raceway Park to claim his third win of the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series season.

Owens, who earned $8,000 for his second-straight HTF Series victory, added another chapter to his long standing friendly rivalry with McDowell. The two veterans have now gone head-to-head in four series races this year.

McDowell led 36 laps from the pole but settled for second at the finish. Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., made a late charge to finish third with Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., fourth. Sam Seawright of Fort Payne, Ala., challenged McDowell through the race's early stages and led multiple laps before fading to fifth at the finish.

McDowell drew the pole position in the Jerico Transmissions redraw and led early while hugging the bottom groove. Seawright, starting second, attacked the cushion and challenged McDowell for the point but ultimately couldn’t maintain the momentum.

Behind them, Owens advanced methodically, cracking the top five in the second half. Following a late caution on lap 38, Owens restarted second. He made the decisive move off turn two on lap 39, slipping under McDowell to take command. He crossed the finish line with a margin of 0.941 seconds.

Duck River's Deep Fried 75 weekend concludes Saturday with another complete program for the Hunt the Front Series. The main event is 75 laps and pays $15,000 to the winner.
