Exciting Races Kept Fans at the Edge of Their Seats on Blaze Credit Union Kids Night

By: Tami Jo Kuehn

Ogilvie, MN (August 9) – Fans and families filled the stands Saturday for a night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Race Action. It was the Kids Night – Bike Giveaway event at the Big O and nearly 100 bikes were awarded to lucky kids. Blaze Credit Union sponsored the evening with Blake Adams, Shane Sabraski, David Swearingen, Jim Gullikson and Brady Fosso taking home hardware.

The Dirt Race Central WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds kicked off the night with William Moelter and David Swearingen on row one. Swearingen claimed the top position while Joey Jensen slid into second. After a caution reset the drivers, Jensen and Swearingen battled for the lead. Swearingen held the point as he and Jensen separated from the field. The top two kept close, and with five laps to go, Jensen attempted a slide job, but Swearingen shot by. Slower drivers came in to view, and with the white waving above the cars, Jensen gave it one final shot. Jensen dipped low, and then slid up out of turn two with Swearingen and a lapped car at his rear. They were nearly three-wide as they shot down the back-chute, and David Swearingen took the thrilling win. Joey Jensen finished second with William Moelter, Brandon Jensen and Ben Lewis as the top drivers.

Rachel Boston and Layla Chaplin brought the WISSOTA Street Stocks to the green, and all drivers kept huddled together as they battled for position. As the drivers wrapped up lap one, a caution was triggered and drivers slowed. When the race resumed, Tommy Pogones challenged Chaplin for first and secured the point. Pogones stretched his lead while Jim Gullikson moved into second and looked ahead at Pogones. Gullikson closed the gap, and passed the #04 for the lead. A final caution occurred before the race’s end, but Jim Gullikson remained in command for the win while Tommy Pogones, Braedyn Fleck, Lucas Boyce and Thomas Worth rounded out the top five finishers.

Blake Adams and Shane Sabraski kicked off the Racer’s X Performance Parts WISSOTA Modifieds feature with door-to-door racing and slide jobs from the drop of the green. Adams secured the lead point as drivers began to settle into positions. Laps passed quickly, and racers covered the full surface as Adams put slower cars down a lap. Suddenly, Ryan Geirke shifted into third, then passed Sabraski for second and looked for the leader. With few to go, Gierke was at Adams’ rear, and when the white flew, Gierke was within striking distance. Gierke gave it a shot as they rounded the final curve, however Blake Adams held his line and took the win. Positions two through five went to Ryan Gierke, Shane Sabraski, Jody Bellefeuille and Jack Rivord.

Tony Jenson took first while Brady Fosso and Randy Jacoboski raced side by side for second the opening lap of the East Central Sports WISSOTA Hornet feature. Bobie Arnes, who started last, moved into top points as he claimed fourth. Meanwhile, Fosso raced the low groove and made his way aside Jenson for the lead. Fosso took the lead, Jenson held second as Arnes moved into third. The top three drivers remained in that order until the checkers waved, and Brady Fosso took the win.

The Zoomies Race Engines WISSOTA Super Stocks closed out the night’s program, and after a couple of opening lap cautions, Shane Sabraski took the lead. Denis Czech grabbed second with Dylan Kromschroeder in third. Joey Jensen challenged Kromschroeder, and they both moved forward to go three-wide with Czech for second. Czech held the point but Jensen and Kromschroeder kept close. Sabraski’s lead exceeded three seconds, as the yellow flag appeared. Sabraski immediately sped away as he brought the drivers back to green, and Jensen grabbed second leaving Czech, Kromschroeder and Ryan Kostreba fighting three-wide for third. Shane Sabraski set the cruise control and took the double checkered flags with Joey Jensen, Denis Czech, Ryan Kostreba and Dylan Kromschoeder rounding out the top five.

Next week, Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway will be in action on Friday night, not Saturday, as the World of Outlaw Sprint cars roll into town for their annual visit. The UMSS High Roller Sprint Cars will also be in attendance along with the MN Micro Sprints. Tickets are available online at www.ogilvieraceway.com, and are encouraged to be purchased online in advance. Racing will begin at 7:30pm.
