Cottage Grove, Oregon- It may not be the highest paying race or the longest event that has been ran at Cottage Grove Speedway but it is by far the most sentimental date on the calendar, the Mark Howard Memorial. The race is ran in memory of the late Mark Howard who was a very vital part of the historic ¼-mile clay oval as the track parts vendor for several and racing mentor to countless drivers. Classes competing include the 360 Sprints, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hornets. In addition to the local contingent of Late Models tearing up the clay the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series will have their final race of their 2013 season.

Tickets for the races on Saturday are $12.00 for Adults, Senior/Military/Junior (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Children under the age of five are FREE. A Family Pass is offered for $30.00 which includes two Adults and up to four Youths. Pit gates open at 2:00 PM, front gates 4:00, time trials 5:30, and racing starts around 6:45

When Roger Crockett has visited the Cottage Grove Speedway in a 360 Sprint he has been victorious on all ten occasions. He will look to continue that record headed into Saturday night while two other drivers have won once and they are Rob Held and Garen Linder.

In the Late Models Collen Winebarger has accumulated a total of four wins at CGS while Trevor Glaser has managed to win three times. Paul Culp is the only other multi-race winner with two triumphs over Shaun Mayea and Chuck Christian who have one apiece.

In Northwest Extreme Late Model Series action Greg Walters is on a hot streak of five straight feature wins to bring his win total with the tour to an impressive eight. Collen Winebarger has five wins while Jerry Schram is the only other main event winner with his lone victory.

The Mark Howard Memorial is the biggest race of the year for the Street Stocks because they will compete for the coveted Wallbanger Cup. Going into the race Darin Crooks and Daniel Ray are tied for the most main event wins with four each. Steve Begley, Jordan Braaten, T.J. Langan, and defending Wallbanger Cup winner Ricky Ashley all have won once this season.

The Hornets have seen its fair share of winners this year. Joe Maricle leads the class with the most victories, five, while last week’s winner Taunton Swaim has three. Josh Corley and Kolby Clay have two triumphs while James Deatherage, Jim Simmons, Matt Cordell, and David Beals have been one time winners so far. James Deatherage and Evan Britton have also have won the two non-point events that were ran earlier this year.

The Cottage Grove Speedway has hosted fast and exciting action as far back as 1956. Since then the ¼-mile banked oval has been regarded as a place where fast times are set and plenty of side-by-side racing occurs. Regular classes include 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hornets from the months of April till October every Saturday night.
