Chase Action Resumes Saturday at DCRP

Championship chase action resumes in full force with all five Dodge City Raceway Park divisions in action this Saturday night atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in Southwest Kanas.

The popular Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars headline the card that fires off at 7:30 p.m. as they return to action for the first time since April 23.

The DCRP Sprint Cars will be joined on the card by the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.

The competition has been an intense at DCRP thus far in 2016 with the Woodward, Oklahoma duo of Cole Traugott in IMCA Modifieds and Jeff Kaup in IMCA Sport Modifieds ranking as the only drivers to post repeat wins through the initial four nights of the season.

Additionally, each of the championship points chases are ultra-tight with fewer than six points separating the top two in points on four of the five divisions and ties for the lead in two divisions.

Turpin, Oklahoma’s Taylor Velasquez leads the way in the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car ranks by just six points over Dodge City’s Tyler Knight with defending champion Luke Cranston, opening night winner Brian Herbert and veteran shoe Mike Peters among the early top five.

Along with Herbert, other DCRP Sprint Car winners thus far in 2016 have included C.J. Johnson and most recently Koby Walters to extend the streak of different winners to seven in a row dating back to June of last year.

While Cole Traugott has stormed to victory lane twice in the last three outings, Turpin’s Cody Gearhart holds a mere one-point lead over Nick Link in the IMCA Modified points chase with Ryan Heger, Kale Beavers and Kevin Gray among the current top five.

Kevin Tabor and Brian May are tied for the IMCA Sport Modified points lead after three-time and reigning champion Jeff Kaup suffered a rare DNF last time out while Cody Davis and Matt O’Hair are also tied for the IMCA Hobby Stock points lead.

Reigning IMCA Stock Car champion Michael Pepper has moved to the top of the point charts as well with a 13-point advantage over opening night winner Tyler Tipton.

Tickets to Saturday’s championship chase action at Dodge City Raceway Park are just $15 for adults with children eleven and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
