Brian Brown - PA Posse Bound!
Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team have the rig pointed east for this weekend’s big World of Outlaws events in central Pennsylvania to take on the Posse. Friday, the prestigious Williams Grove National Open near Mechanicsburg will pay $50,000 to the winner. Saturday, the team will make their first ever appearance with the WoO at Port Royal Speedway.
It’s been a couple of years since you’ve been to Pennsylvania.
We were there last in 2013. With the rainout happening there a couple weeks ago, it gave us a great opportunity to get back. It’s important for us to get back there for a number of reasons. Champion Oil, which is one of our long-time partners is the presenting sponsor of the race. Really, it’s important for all our partners like Casey’s General Stores and FVP that we’re at as many big events as we can get to.
Your engine builder is also from the area.
Charlie Garrett from Garrett Racing Engines, builds our engines and does a phenomenal job. We feel he’s the best there is. He doesn’t get to see us race in person very often. It will be good that he’s sees us race, but we’re looking forward to just spending some time with him too.
The Williams Grove National Open is one of the crown jewels in sprint car racing.
It’s one of the premiere events in the country. On top of that, you have some of the greatest fans in the country out there. So it’s a win, win, all around for us. We know it’s not going to be easy. Anytime you face the PA Posse and the Outlaws at Williams Grove, it’s going to be one of the toughest single nights of racing you’ll see.
That track is very unique too.
You can watch as much video as you want on the Grove, but like Knoxville, until you actually get there in the heat of the battle, you don’t know. There are split decisions, and knowing where to go to on the track. There’s really not a lot you can do prerace, other than watch the track a bit and try to identify the characteristics of the track as the night goes on.
What are your expectations this weekend?
First and foremost, we just want to get qualified in. At that point, if it gives us an opportunity to win, that’s fine, if it’s an opportunity just to make the show…we’ll do the best we can. Chad (Morgan) and Michael (Williams) have put in a strong week and a half of work to make sure we’re ready when we drop the rear door.
The Port will be a new track for you.
We’ve never been to Port Royal. Just watching videos, it looks like a place we should go well at. We’re just looking forward to getting back out to Pennsylvania, and hopefully, we bring some good luck. We don’t have sky-high expectations going out, because it’s an area of the country we rarely get to. But we feel if we get qualified, we can put ourselves in position to run right with them
