Dale Eliason Jr Finishes Runner-Up in Back to Back Weeks

26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (March 13th, 2017) – Dale Eliason Jr has a lot of different interests and hobbies. One of those includes playing the baritone in the school band. There probably aren’t many instances where playing the baritone could prevent someone from missing a race, but that was almost the case for Eliason Jr on Saturday night, as he had a school band performance schedule 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of racing action at Canyon Speedway Park. Luckily, everything worked out perfectly and Eliason Jr showed up to the track with plenty of time to spare before his heat race.

Running a Non-Wing car for the first time since October, Eliason Jr would use his 5th starting spot in the third and final Micro heat race as a chance to reacclimate himself to the car. But at the halfway point Eliason Jr would find himself running 2nd on a restart after the leaders took each other out.

“I was trying to get used to the non-wing car again,” he said. “I didn’t want to take the risk to go for the lead and end up in the back with 4 to go.”

Eliason Jr would finish his heat in 2nd putting him second in passing points and lining him up 5th in the 20 lap Main. Due to wrecks, spins and one of the leaders’ droppings out for mechanical issues, Eliason Jr would be lined up 2nd behind last week’s winner, Michael Colegrove, before the first competitive lap was completed.

Once the race got underway, Dale was challenging for the lead.

“I watched how Michael drive into the corners and saw that he was getting looser and looser every lap,” said Eliason Jr. “Thanks to my Dad and Chuck, we had the right setup to be running right on his tail.”

Eliason Jr would remain on Colegrove’s tail throughout the Main until a lapped car created the separation Colegrove needed to take the win.

“I tried to get around him (the lapped car) as fast as I could,” he said. “But it was too late and we ended up in second.”

Eliason looks to keep the hot start to his 2017 season alive when the Power 600 Series returns to action on April 1st, running non-wing again, at Canyon Speedway Park.
