Blake Hahn Picks Up First Win Of The Season At Humboldt Speedway

SAPULPA, Okla. (May 17, 2017) Taking in two nights of ASCS competition this past weekend, Blake Hahn ended one night in Victory Lane for the first time in 2017; winning at the Humboldt Speedway with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products.

Starting off Thursday at Lakeside Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Hahn’s night ended with a 16th place finish after having to come through the B-Main.

“They had a lot of rain so the track just kept getting better as the night went on. Starting as deep as we did, we threw anything we could think of at it to free the car up and it still wasn’t enough, but we also figured out a few things on our engine program so it wasn’t a complete bust of a night,” commented Hahn.

Rolling a couple hours down the road to Humboldt Speedway with the ASCS Red River Region, Hahn had redemption on his mind. That determination paid off as Blake railed the top of the three-eighths mile oval to pick up his first win of the season.

“I was focused on winning. We almost got it last year until I messed up and spun, so I was determined to get it done this time.”

Winning his Heat Race from fifth, that put Blake in the redraw where he drew the fourth starting spot. Taking to the top of the Speedway on the start, Hahn was on point by the close of the opening lap. Able to gain some distance over second running, Kyle Bellm, disaster nearly struck again for Hahn in the closing laps.

“The cushion was getting thin and you had to enter just right, or you’d get sucked into the wall, and I went in on it going into three instead of cheating it, and that’s what happened," explained Blake. " At that point, my biggest thing was not letting the car stop and luckily I was able to get it rolling again.”

The result was a broken Jacobs Ladder which Hahn said actually made the car work better.

“As soon as I went into turn one, I knew the ladder was either bent or broken because the car got really tight off the right rear so I started moving the wing forward. A couple bumps on the valve, and the car felt really good, but a few times it did try to unload, so I had to be careful. Once I saw how it was broken, I felt pretty lucky to have finished.”

Up next for Hahn and the Lucas Oil / Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 is ASCS Red River Region competition at Creek Count Speedway on Friday, May 19 and Lawton Speedway on Saturday, May 20.
