Lucas Oil ASCS Returns To Riverside Int. Speedway This Thursday

TULSA, Okla. (August 22, 2017) Hitting the road for one of the most historic ovals in North America, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network will make a rare midweek appearance at the Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. on Thursday, August 24.

A quarter-mile, high banked oval that sits just a couple hundred yards from the banks of the Mississippi River, the series has not graced the gumbo surface of “The Ditch” since 2015 with the Rock N’ Roll 50 presented by TBJ Promotions. In that visit, Washington's Seth Bergman picked up his second career victory at the Arkansas oval in the series 32nd visit since 1995.

Further expanding his championship points lead with his 11th National Tour triumph of the season this past Sunday at the Missouri State Fair Speedway, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. holds a 166 point advantage over Aaron Reutzel. Sam won for the first time at “The Ditch” on August 21, 2014, after a hair raising battle with Jeff Swindell, who ended up third with a sour engine.

Looking to rebound to victory after spinning while leading at Sedalia, Reutzel is not out of the hunt for the season ending $60,000 payday by any stretch of the imagination. Five wins on the year, the 2015 series champion nearly topped competition at Riverside in 2015 before a flat right rear forced the Texas native to battle back to a career best sixth place finish in only 10 laps.

Third in tour standings is Oklahoma’s, Wayne Johnson. Despite a history that includes 50 Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour wins, Wayne Johnson has not won at Riverside International Speedway in ASCS competition.

Matt Covington holds fourth in tour standings with Seth Bergman currently tied for fifth with Johnny Herrera. Of the drivers in the top-ten, Seth and Sam are the only ones with wins at Riverside. Blake Hahn seventh is trailed by Skylar Gee, Harli White, and Josh Baughman to make up the top-ten in tour standings.

The event is also co-sanctioned with the ASCS Mid-South Region which is led by Tennessee’s Brian Bell buy only 10 markers over Andy McElhannon with Ernie Ainsworth, Justin Webb, and Dakota Gains making up the top-five.

Thursday, August 24 at Riverside International Speedway gets underway with Hot Laps at 6:30 P.M. (CDT) and includes Late Models and Street Stocks. Admission is $25 for adults while kids 11 and under are admitted free into the grandstands. Riverside International Speedway is located at 151 Legion Rd. in West Memphis, Ark.
